In the Mahabharata and related narratives, there are multiple kings of Kashi (Kashiraja) mentioned, leading to different scenarios regarding their death:
- Kashiraja (Duryodhana’s father-in-law): He was killed by Lord Krishna in an earlier war prior to the main Kurukshetra conflict.
- Sudhanva/Sudakshina (Son of Kashiraja): Following the death of the king, his son Sudhanva, who aligned with Paundraka Vasudeva, was killed along with his city (Kasipura) by Krishna using his Sudarshana Chakra.
- Subahu (Son of Subhoja/Subhadra): He took over the Kasi kingdom, later fought on the side of the Pandavas, but died of old age shortly before the war.
- Abhibhu (King of Kasi): Led the Kasi army in the Kurukshetra war fighting for the Pandavas and was killed in battle.
The king mentioned at the beginning of the war (Bhima's father-in-law) was part of the alliance fighting for the Pandavas
