meditation

Yudhishthira said,

'How wonderful is this, O thou of immeasurable prowess, that thou art rapt in meditation! O great refuge of the universe, is it all right with the three worlds? When thou hast, O God, withdrawn thyself (from the world), having, O bull among men, adopted the fourth, state, my mind has been filled with wonder. 2 The five life-breaths that act within the body have been controlled by thee into stillness. Thy delighted senses thou hast concentrated within thy mind. Both speech and mind, O Govinda, have been concentrated within thy understanding. All thy senses, indeed, have been withdrawn into thy soul. 3 The hair on thy body stands erect. Thy mind and understanding are both still. Thou art as immobile now, O Madhava, as a wooden post or a stone. O illustrious God, thou art as still as the flame of a lamp burning in a place where there is no wind. Thou art as immobile as a mass of rock. If I am fit to hear the cause, if it is no secret of thine, dispel, O god, my doubt for I beg of thee and solicit it as a favour. Thou art the Creator and thou art the Destroyer. Thou art destructible and thou art indestructible. Thou art without beginning and thou art without end. Thou art the first and the foremost of Beings. O foremost of righteous persons, tell me the cause of this (Yoga) abstraction. I solicit thy favour, and am thy devoted worshipper, and bow to thee, bending my head.'

Thus addressed, the illustrious younger brother of Vasava, recalling his mind, understanding, and the senses to their usual sphere, said these words with a soft smile.

Vasudeva said, 'That tiger among men, Bhishma, who is now lying on a bed of arrows, and who is now like unto a fire that is about to go out, is thinking of me. Hence my mind also was concentrated on him.

Hun

 a Rakshasa of the

p. 82

name of Charvaka, who had disguised himself as a Brahmana, addressed the king. He was a friend of Duryodhana and stood therein the garb of a religious mendicant. With a rosary, with a tuft of hair on his head, and with the triple staff in his hand, he stood proudly and fearlessly in the midst of all those Brahmanas that had come there for pronouncing benedictions (upon the king), numbering by thousands, O king, and all of whom were devoted to penances and vows. That wicked wight, desirous of evil unto the high-souled Pandavas and without having consulted those Brahmanas, said these words unto the king.'

"Charvaka said, 'All these Brahmanas, making me their spokesman, are saying, 'Fie on thee! Thou art a wicked king. Thou art a slayer of kinsmen. What shalt thou gain, O son of Kunti, by having thus exterminated thy race? Having slain also thy superiors and preceptor, it is proper for thee to cast away thy life.' Hearing these words of that wicked Rakshasa the Brahmanas there became deeply agitated. Stung by that speech, they made a loud uproar. And all of them, with king Yudhishthira. O monarch, became speechless from anxiety and shame.'

"Yudhishthira said, 'I bow down to you and beseech you humbly, be gratified with me. It doth not behove you to cry fie on me. I shall soon lay down my life.' 1

"Vaisampayana continued, 'Then all those Brahmanas, O king, loudly said, 'These are not our words. Prosperity to thee, O monarch!' Those high-souled persons, conversant with the Vedas, with understanding rendered clear by penances, then penetrated the disguise of the speaker by means of their spiritual sight.' And they said, 'This is the Rakshasa Charvaka, the friend of Duryodhana. Having put on the garb of a religious mendicant, he seeks the good of his friend Duryodhana. We have not, O thou of righteous soul, said anything of the kind. Let this anxiety of thine be dispelled. Let prosperity attend upon thee with thy brothers.'

"Vaisampayana continued, 'These Brahmanas then, insensate with rage, uttered the sound Hun. Cleansed of all sins, they censured the sinful Rakshasa and slew him there (with that very sound). Consumed by the energy of those utterers of Brahma, Charvaka fell down dead, like a tree with all its sprouts blasted by the thunder of Indra.

Arjuna Praises Dhritarashtra Criticises Yudhisthira

Dhritarashtra, O king, had given unto Bhishma and Drona the whole earth, and what was still more valuable, all his children. Though honoured by our foe thus, and though he had obtained such wealth from him, the preceptor still loved us as his own children. Of unfading energy and prowess, the preceptor has been slain, only because, induced by thy words he had laid aside his weapons. While engaged in fight he was incapable of being slain by Indra himself. The preceptor was venerable in years and always devoted to our welfare. Yet unrighteous that we are, and stained with a levity of behaviour, we scrupled not to injure him. Alas, exceedingly cruel and very heinous has been the sin that we have committed, for, moved by the desire of enjoying the pleasures of sovereignty, we have slain that Drona. My preceptor had all along been under the impression that in consequence of my love for him, I could, (for his sake) abandon all,--sire, brother, children, wife and life itself. And yet moved by the desire of sovereignty, I interfered not when he was about to be slain. For this fault, O king, I have, O lord, already sunk into hell, overcome with shame. Having, for the sake of kingdom, caused the slaughter of one who was a Brahmana, who was venerable in years, who p. 463 was my preceptor, who had laid aside his weapons, and who was then devoted, like a great ascetic, to Yoga, death has become preferable to me to life!'

Saptarishis Brahmastra Dronacharya

  • Acquisition of Knowledge: Dronacharya, the royal preceptor to the Pandavas and Kauravas, acquired the knowledge of numerous celestial weapons, including the Brahmastra, from the legendary sage Parashurama.
  • Mastery and Teaching: Drona was a master of advanced military arts and had knowledge of how to invoke and, importantly, withdraw the Brahmastra. He taught this skill primarily to his favorite disciple Arjuna, and only partially to his own son Ashwatthama, due to concerns about the latter's temperament.
  • Usage in the War: During the Kurukshetra war, Dronacharya used the Brahmastra multiple times. He was heavily criticized by the Saptarishis themselves when he deployed this powerful weapon against ordinary foot soldiers, an action considered a violation of the rules of dharma (righteous conduct) as such weapons should only be used against an equivalent or superior foe.
  • Ashwatthama's Misuse: After Drona's death, an enraged Ashwatthama later used the Brahmashirsha astra (a weapon even more potent than the Brahmastra) indiscriminately. When he aimed it at the womb of Uttara to end the Pandava lineage, the Saptarishis (along with sage Vyasa and Narada) intervened to prevent a cataclysm.

Pandav / Sixth Pandav - Karna / Krishna's View

https://k00y.blogspot.com/

Krishna was full of compassion for Karna, he said," because I want to save you from certain death. I want you to live. Accordingly to dharma, you are the eldest Pandavas, sons born to a maiden, become the sons of the man she marries. This is the rule of dharma. Now you know that you are the eldest among the Pandavas, on your mother’s side you are my cousin. You shall be announced a king and all the Pandavas shall be there to serve you and obey your commands. Draupadi will also be your wife.

  1. You are like Yudhisthira in righteousness,
  2. You are compassionate like Bhima,
  3. You are equal to Arjuna in archery and warfare,
  4. you are handsome like Nakula and
  5. you are wise and learned like Sahdeva.

You shall enjoy the kingdom of the earth. Come, join with me, I shall give you the kingdom of the world. You will also gain five brothers and mother.

Prativindhya

Prativindhya (IASTPrativindhyaSanskritप्रतिविन्ध्य, lit. shining like the sun towards the Vindhyas) or Shrutavindhya (IASTŚrutavindhyaSanskritश्रुतविन्ध्य, lit. related to the Buddhi) was son of Yudhishthira and Draupadi and was the eldest of the Draupadeyas. He was described to be a skilled fighter, known to face troops like "the thunder-wielding Shakra (Indra)".In the Kurukshetra War, Prativindhya fought Shakuni. On the 9th day, Prativindhya struck Alambusha unconscious. He also rescued his father Yudhishtira from Drona showing his courage.

On 12th day, he repelled Drona who was trying to capture Yudhishthira alive.

On 14th day, he killed Dushasana's son Durmasena, who had killed Abhimanyu and took revenge. On the 14th night, he fought some of the Kauravas along with Sutasoma. On the 15th day, he stopped Ashwatthama's advance by holding him off long enough but ultimately had to retreat from the battle after being overpowered by Ashwatthama. He killed Chitra, the king of Abhisara, on the 16th day.

According to the Matsya Purana, Yuddhishtira had a son named Yaudheya from his first wife Subala, however he does not succeed Yudhishthira to the throne of Hastinapura as he inherits his maternal kingdom of Yaudheya.

Sutasoma

Sutasoma (Sanskritसुतसोम, lit. one who has extracted soma or the one who has the beauty of the moon) was son of Bhima and Draupadi, second of the Draupadeyas. He also handled the troops in the war. He excelled in Mace fighting and archery. He battled the Kaurava prince Vikarna on the first day of the war. He played a major role in the battle by nearly killing Shakuni. Sutasoma, on the 12th day, stopped the advance of the mighty Kaurava Vivismati, towards Drona. He also battled some of the Kauravas on the 14th night, accompanied by his half-brother Prativindhya. He played a major role along with Yudhishthira and other Draupadeyas in holding off Dushasana and the other Kauravas on the 15th day.

Shatanika

Shatanika (IASTŚatānīkaSanskritशतानीक, lit. he who has hundred troops) was the son of Nakula and Draupadi. He was the third of the Draupadeyas. He was named after a famous Rajarshi in the Kuru lineage who was considered to be an avatar of Visvedevas. He was nominated as a deputy commander-in-chief under his maternal uncle and teacher Dhrishtadyumna, in was charge of Vyuha planning. He was the strongest among the Draupadeyas. He massacred the army of Kaurava ally Bhutakarma, as well as Bhutakarma. Shatanika also defeated Kaurava prince Dushkarna on the 6th day. On the 11th day he defeated by Karna’s son Vrihasena.[16] He defeated the Kauravas Jayatsena, Chitrasena and Shrutakarman and killed a prince of Kalinga. Shatanika caused huge destruction of the Kaurava army on the 17th day too.

Shrutasena

Shrutsena (IASTŚrutasenaSanskritश्रुतसेन, lit. the commander of the army of celestials) was son of Sahadeva and Draupadi and the fourth of the Draupadeyas; like his father he was smart and intelligent. In the Chatahurdi analysis of the Mahabharata, he was defeated by Shakuni during the battle; he killed Shala, the younger brother of Bhurishravas on the 14th day of the war.He fought with other warriors like Dushmanara and Durmukha and defeated them. He also killed the son of Kaurava warrior Devavraddha.

Shrutakarma

Shrutakarma (IASTŚrutakarmaSanskritश्रुतकर्म, lit. he who is known for his good deeds) was the son of Arjuna and Draupadi, and the youngest of the Draupadeyas. His horses were supposed to bear the colour of kingfishers. He was a capable archer like his father and defeated Kamboja ruler Sudakshina on the first day. He also defeated the Kaurava Jayatsena on the 6th day. He fought against Dushasana and Ashvathama in an archery duel in the battle and gave them a good fight. He killed King Chitrasena, another king of Abhisara, on the 16th day.

Ashvatthama Kripa Kritaverma

  1. killed all the Draupadeyas who were awake by then along with Shikhandi when they came out of their chambers after hearing the screams of other soldiers to fight Ashvatthama
  2. In some versions of the story, he believes them to be the five Pandava brothers due to darkness;
  3. in others, he purposefully attacks the Pandavas' heirs in order to hurt the Pandavas emotionally by destroying their lineage.

In the Jataka tales version of the Mahabharata, Parikshit's mentors included Sutasoma. Prativindhya, Shrutakarma, and Shatanika at least (who even in Sauptika Parva is shown as wounded not dead) have definite longer lives in Jatakas.

Kritavarma

Kritavarma was a partial incarnation of the Maruts, who were the storm gods of the Hindu pantheon. He was a powerful Yadava warrior and a contemporary of Lord Krishna, who famously fought on the side of the Kauravas in the Kurukshetra war.

  • Role in the Kurukshetra War:
Kritavarma was the commander of the Narayani Sena, Krishna's army, which Krishna gave to Duryodhana. This is why he fought against the Pandavas.
  • Controversy:
His decision to fight with the Kauravas led to a rivalry with Satyaki, another Yadava warrior who fought for the Pandavas.
  • Survival:
Kritavarma was one of the three survivors from the Kaurava side at the end of the war.
